Blogger Hates Me

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4XXvs8ECrU

Blogger is a wanker. It won't let me put the actual video on for some god forsaken reason so Elliot put it on Youtube and then it's on there so it's kind of fine but still a wanker.

I can only imagine that I have to evaluate it now, so i'll do that.

Firstly, we had to make an 8 Shot Journey, Which is basically a journey that someone takes that only takes 8 shots. Obviously this is on Video.
I started off by writing and drawing a Storyboard, in which the First shot had Laura sitting in G26, We had to take 3 takes of this scene, as she kept laughing at the fat man who kept passing by, and after the second take i had enough and changed her position away from looking directly at the obese passerby. this worked alright so then I had her walking out of the door and through to the corridor, The second shot is her walking down the corridor and preceding to open the double doors, in which i had to take 2 takes of that as in the first take she went the wrong way. The third shot is a close up of Laura's hand opening the door. The Fourth is her walking into the Atrium which was a wide shot in which i had to do like 4 takes of it because the first take some idiot walked passed while laura was walking which was quite aggravating, the second take of the shot, a strange boy walked into it and turned around and asked if we were filming and i was like well obviously i am if you'd just have walked on then i probably could have used that shot as Laura hadn't come out yet. On the third take it was fine.
The fifth shot was from the first floor of laura walking across the Atrium towards the entrance and through the turn styles, which i first filmed right and filmed a second take as i was unsure of the continuity.
The sixth shot was taken from the entrance of her walking out towards the left.
The seventh shot is a big ol' wide shot of the whole of the front college and laura walking out leaning on a wall.
and the final shot was laura lighting up a fag and then walking off camera

The whole basic experience of making the 8 shot journey was quite fun and rather stressful as so many people kept walking in and out of each take and oh my god are the people annoying.

On viewing the video 3 weeks later i definitely think it could be edited down shorter as it seems to take far too much time to do much.
However when i was editing it at the time i wasd only just introduced to the software and i can be amazingly slow sometimes and really had no idea as it took me and laura 2 hours to edit it from 7 minutes down to about a minute and a half. We then edited laura's totally in about 20 minutes, which was a good amount of time.
I think it's an alright little Journey however, as it's rather simple and doesn't make too much sense as it is just Laura walking outside for a fag and that's never going to be a great masterpiece is it? :)

Radio Jingles

We had to make three Jingles for SNC Live!: the College's radio station, obviously not to be in proper use but just because it teaches us how to use the software.
We had to make a Station Ident that had to be about 10-15 seconds long, a Show Promo that had to be about 30-60 seconds long and a News stating that had to be about 15-30 seconds long.
For all three I used Adobe Sound Booth and GarageBand, apart from the Station Promo where i went on a Internet site that converted Youtube videos to Mp3 files to download which i did instead of GarageBand.

Station Ident Evaluation.
This one was my favourite one as it was the only one where I felt i did the best I could, I spent like 3 hours doing it which is stupidly long considering it came to about 8 seconds, and i got pretty fed up with the software even though once you got the hang of it it was fine.
Apparently I didn't save it as an MP3 file so it wouldn't play on Windows Media Player, even though i remember doing it, but as that was on a Mac maybe nothing really works appropriately.
From what i remember of it it started with a big old alarm and then Laura, Lucy and I said SNC, one after another, I then played a big old church choir saying "HALLELUJAH!" which was followed with me saying Live! I think it worked rather well because not onloy did it teach me how to use the softwarem but it was relatrively straightforward.

Station Promo Evaluation.
With this one I recorded on Soundbooth saying SNC Live! and various other phrases that Laura, Lucy and I said that I can't quite recall at this moment in time. I spent atleast 3 hours on GarageBand, trying to find the appropriate accompaniment to the tracks of which i couldn't and got amazingly frustrated and at about 2 o'clock on Wednesday I gave up and found a website that you can change Youtube Files into MP3's and then download them to use, which is what i did, I got Cheryl Cole's Fight For This Love and Candi Staton Featuring The Source's You Got The Love and cropped them to the suitable length for my promo and played them under what Laura, Lucy and I were saying. I'm still not very happy with it because i do thing it could be alot better but i guess it'll have to stay like that.

Radio News Jingle Evaluation.
This one really is amazingly pathetic as I had only 20 minutes to do it in and it was amazingly rushed. I recorded me saying "SNC news, Bringing all The news, about SNC" or something rather like that I then went on GarageBand and got something that sounded vaguely News-esque called "Flurry" which I then played during it.
I really think this one could have been a whole lot better but as i spent so long messing around with the Show Promo for three hours of stuff that i did not use, it was rather a waste of time.

I hope to eventually put up these Jingles as really what use is an evaluation without something to evaluate and as that won't be on blogger there's not much actual proof i have done it. I have though, so you'll just have to trust me.

The Negatives.

This is just because Jon Saward made me.

This is a negative, and as we can all see, it looks much better in positive. :)

Same applies to this one really, obviously of the canteen, it's quite a nice one :)

This is Laura, Ghostly Laura.

God knows how this happened. the actual negative looks nothing like this, I think something must have messed it up. But still it's kinda interesting :)

Pinhole Pictures

This is a picture I took with the pinhole camera of the outside entrance, this is probably the best image I got from it, the exposure time was 20 seconds which i think was probably the best exposure time as the rest i did for 10-30 seconds and they came out all screwy.

This is a picture in the Atrium from a table. I think it's pretty good because you can see people eating and moving, the exposure time was 3 minutes which is surprisingly small for quite a good image if I do blow my own trumpet. The blurry bit on the right is the actual pinhole apparently, I could have cropped it out but i think it adds to the interest and as it's from a pinhole camera we musn't hide that fact. :)

This is Laura, isn't she pretty? :P

This was taken outside because when i tried to do it inside nothing really happened so i thought I'd go somewhere with better lighting conditions, also it was a good excuse for a smoke. The exposure time was for 30 seconds and for that time I think it has worked rather effectively.

This was obviously taken inside, It's a bit of a fail but it's alright. I placed my pinhole camera on a stair and left it for 2 minutes, it probably should have been there longer but by that time i was quite annoyed at all of mine that were over exposed and you get quite iffy about it all.
I'm not sure why it's gone all funny, but i guess that's the beauty of the pinhole camera. The window came out well, and laura was next to it but strangely it didn't pick her up.

I would put the negatives on but to be honest i'm not sure where they've gone and then it'd get awfully cramped and that so, these are all you can see at the moment :).

Pinhole Camera etc.

Pinhole Camera

A camera is a device that records images, either moving or still which comes from something called a Camera Obscura, which is Latin for “dark chamber.
A Camera obscura is an early mechanism for projecting images onto a wall, so if you were inside you could see what’s happening outside, the projected image is upside down though.
A Shutter is a device that allows light to pass for a determined period of time, for the purpose of exposing photographic film or a light sensitive electronic sensor to light to capture a permanent image of a scene.
An Aperture is an opening which light can pass through, this is measured in increments called F-Stops.
A lens captures the light from the subject and brings it to a focus on the film or detector.
The size of the aperture and the brightness of the scene controls the amount of light that enters the camera during a period of time, and the shutter controls the length of time that the light hits the recording surface. Equivalent exposures can be made with a larger aperture and a faster shutter speed or a corresponding smaller aperture and with the shutter speed slowed down.

A pinhole camera is a small basic camera consisting of a box or a tin with an aperture in such as a pin sized hole. On my camera, I painted the inside and the lid black to make sure no extra light came in to ruin the photographic paper, then we put a piece of photographic paper in opposite the pinhole, sealed it tight, closed the aperture with the shutter which was a small piece of cardboard and then it was ready to use.
I have taken a range of pictures inside and outside with my pinhole camera all of which aren’t perfect as it took a while to know how long to leave it exposed.

Hello :)

Heya, I'm Neil.
This blog is for my work that I do throughout this Media course, at Suffolk New College.
I do not want a google account and I think its ridiculous that I have to have one.
But anyway, :)
